A Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration is a true milestone in one's life, a new beginning; it's a symbolic moment in which a young Jew leaves childhood and makes his or her first steps in the world of adulthood. The memories we acquire on that occasion are unforgettable, the celebration, the ceremony at the Synagogue, the presents, the family and friends that join us in this special moment all bring joy and happiness into a child life, to be cherished for years to come.
However, with our children the happiness is also accompanied with great pain. This special daylike all occasions in their lives - stands in the shadow of their terrible loss. For every girl that is celebrating her Bat Mitzvah, and for every boy that is celebrating his Bar Mitzvah, this day represents togetherness - with family and friends, but also symbolizes a time of great loneliness. This day stands as a clear reminder that their fathers can only be present in spirit, in their hearts, tragically unable to accompany them on the joyous occasion.
Once a year, IDF Widows and Orphans Organization holds a moving celebration in Jerusalem for tens of our little heroes. On this special day we embrace our children with love and care, as we introduce them to their extended family - the family of the bereaved, other women and children who know all too well what they feel, understand them and will support them for years to come. On this day we bring elements of Jewish values to the lives of our children, as they spend the day in Jerusalem, touring the Old City, celebrating at the Western Wall and are joined by the President of Israel, Minister of Defense, Chief of Staff and other numerous supporters, as well as their families, loved ones and friends. But perhaps most importantly, we organize a fun and truly unforgettable experience for the children, showing them we will never forget their sacrifice and that we will stand by them whenever and wherever they needs us.
